Solutions for a More Liveable Caloundra

Free parking and no more meters

It was indeed a happy day when the council announced the end of the parking meters. The community celebrations echoed across social media and in our local shops. It remains a mystery to me why Caloundra councillors as far back as the 80s ever thought the meters would be anything other than a negative for local business. Congratulations to Cr Terry and Mayor Rosanna. The next essential step is physically removing the meters to reduce confusion and truly move forward.

Build a Golden Beach foreshore

The sand dredging currently underway in the Pumicestone Passage at Golden Beach buys us a few years of reduced impact from the next couple of cyclones. But it would be a massive lost opportunity if the dredges aren’t used to pump a 20-metre-wide, 2-metre-deep sandy beach along the Golden Beach foreshore – similar to the one naturally forming near the mangrove walk between the Power Boat Club and the Naval Cadets clubhouse. If the dredges leave without restoring a substantial, full-length beach, we’ll be left with years of exposed, ugly rock walls and muddy silt.

Improve our waterway quality

Every time it rains, oils from our roads, microplastics from our gutters, and fine sediments from roofs and driveways are washed from the catchment into large stormwater pipes, and from there into the passage at Happy Valley (and into all our waterways, really). Let’s hope there’s action soon to reopen ocean access at Happy Valley and install pollution and sediment traps to intercept contaminants before they enter our waters.

Support with a Google review

Supporting local businesses can be as simple as writing a Google review about why your experience was a good one. It costs nothing but your time, and it’s deeply appreciated by business owners. Good Google reviews are extremely valued and help local shops and services increase their searchability.
