One of the most rewarding parts of my role is backing local businesses that are putting the Sunshine Coast on the global map.
Recently, I had the privilege of presenting Six Zero Pickleball with the 2025 Australian Export Award for Emerging Exporter, recognising outstanding international success built right here in our region.
What makes this achievement so remarkable is where it began. Just three years ago, it was operating from a family garage. Today, from its Bokarina headquarters, the company exports thousands of Australian-designed products each month to customers in more than 100 countries, with around 95 per cent of sales going offshore.
That is a Sunshine Coast small business competing confidently in global markets. Industry and economic growth matter. When local companies innovate, invest in research and development, and expand into export markets, they create jobs, strengthen supply chains and drive prosperity across our region. Success like this supports families, builds skills and reinforces the Sunshine Coast’s reputation as a place where enterprise can thrive.
The Sunshine Coast is the small business capital of Australia for a reason. We are home to entrepreneurs willing to take risks, build capability and compete internationally.
Local priorities mean supporting industry, backing innovation and ensuring our regional economy remains strong, diverse and outward looking.
