Coast three-piece Wave Raiders, are the youngest band ever to share the stage with Aussie rock legends The Screaming Jets, and are fast becoming one of the region’s most talked-about acts.
The band is made up of lead vocalist and guitarist Pete De Waard, 15, his younger brother Tom, 13, on drums, and bassist and vocalist Jayden Georg, also 13. All three attended primary school in Caloundra and now go to Unity College in Caloundra West.
Their first gig at the Caloundra RSL drew a bigger crowd than expected. “We knew we were onto something when the bar staff were overwhelmed, and we received a complaint from someone on the pokies saying our music was too loud,” Pete said.
Just one year after forming, the band shared the stage with Spiderbait in front of 10,000 people at the Caloundra Music Festival. They have since caught the attention of internationally renowned booking agent Steve James.
When they are not performing at festivals across the country, the boys are involved in their local community. Upcoming gigs include headlining the Caloundra City Soccer Club’s 50th Anniversary and a Daniel Morcombe Foundation event in August. Their third single, ‘My Way’, drops August 1.
