Caloundra octogenarian Anne Sinclair released her debut novel, Mirikai: A Place of Peace, in June 2024. The story is grounded in facts and fiction, which Anne describes as “factional”.
Anne began writing after her son asked her to record memories of her late husband. “One of the boys asked me to write down a few notes about his father,” she said. “It ended up being 174 pages. I enjoy writing, and this is the result.”
Born and raised in Auckland, Anne left home at 18 to live in Canada and the United States before returning to New Zealand, where she married her husband, Bob. The couple spent time on the Gold Coast and in Papua New Guinea before deciding to settle in Caloundra after their son relocated here with his family.
Sadly, Bob passed away before they could make Caloundra their home together. Anne moved here alone and has since embraced the coastal lifestyle. “I love it here. The scenery is beautiful, and the people are so friendly,” she said.
Her novel features real locations, characters inspired by her friends, and life events, including her time in Papua New Guinea. She encourages other aspiring authors to “just go for it.“
You can experience Anne’s factional story of hardship and hope by purchasing the novel.
