The wonderful women of the Caloundra QCWA Branch know their way around a kitchen, and they are putting that experience to good use through the QCWA Country Kitchens program.
With only eight per cent of Australian adults and 4.6 per cent of children eating the recommended five serves of vegetables each day, the program offers practical ways to add more nutritious food to the family table without making mealtimes complicated or expensive.
Country Kitchens combines the cooking skills of QCWA members with training and support from qualified dietitians and nutritionists. Local volunteer facilitators then share what they have learnt through relaxed, hands-on workshops and cooking activities.
Participants can pick up useful nutrition tips, discover healthy recipes and learn simple ways to prepare tasty meals using everyday ingredients. The focus is on small, realistic changes that can work for people of different ages, budgets and cooking abilities.
The program is delivered through a partnership between the QCWA and the Queensland Government, with funding from Health and Wellbeing Queensland. Across the state, it is helping communities build confidence in the kitchen and make healthier food choices.
Here in Caloundra, the local QCWA Branch is ready to share the knowledge, recipes and friendly company.
