Moffat Beach Brewing Co. is turning 10 this October – a milestone for a family-owned brewery that began with big dreams and a small beachfront café. Founded in 2015 by husband-and-wife team Matt and Sharynne (Shaz) Wilson, it grew from a humble home brew kit into Australia’s most awarded independent brewery.
After swapping Sydney’s pace for the Sunshine Coast, Matt and Shaz dreamed of creating something unique – a hospitality experience that blended great beer, fresh local produce, and innovative cuisine. When they discovered Moffat Beach, they knew it was the perfect place to bring their vision to life. The Beachside brewpub quickly became a favourite destination, known for its laid-back vibe, live music, and fresh beer served metres from the surf.
Open seven days, it’s the go-to spot for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a view, serving locally sourced food, specials, and craft beer alongside wine and cocktails. With live music every weekend and a dog-friendly atmosphere, it’s the heart of the Moffat Beach experience.
Industry recognition soon followed, with major titles including Champion Small Brewery at the Australian International Beer Awards (2022 & 2023), Champion Independent Medium Brewery at the Indies (2022 & 2023), Grand Champion Beer at the Royal Queensland Beer Awards (2024), and Champion Pale Ale in 2025.
To keep up with demand, the Wilsons opened the Production House & Taproom in Caloundra West in 2020. Home to the full brewing range, it pairs fresh pours with low ’n’ slow barbecue from Wilson’s Barbecue, plus live music, trivia, bingo nights, and Twilight Markets – a real community hub.
Over the decade, Moffat Beach Brewing has weathered industry challenges and stayed true to its Caloundra roots. The passionate team continues to punch above its weight – brewing local flavours, winning awards, and most importantly, creating spaces where everyone feels at home.
At Moffat Beach Brewing Co., the philosophy is simple: the good life is brewed, not bought. It’s found in the salty air, the clink of glasses with mates, and the sun hitting the waves just right.
To mark the milestone, Moffat Beach Brewing is hosting a 10th Birthday + Oktoberfest Celebration on Saturday, 18 October. The event celebrates the people who made it possible – the team, the community, and the town – in a feel-good gathering of resilience, craft, and coastal spirit.
