ArtsNational Sunshine Coast officially launched its new Arts Talk Series in Caloundra in April at the Caloundra Regional Gallery, marking an exciting addition to the local arts calendar.
The launch was led by Caloundra resident Fran Maitland, ArtsNational’s National Australian Lecturer Co-ordinator, who thanked the Gallery, CACA, the Caloundra Chorale and more than 50 local residents who attended, along with members of the ArtsNational Sunshine Coast Committee.
For 38 years, ArtsNational Sunshine Coast has presented illustrated arts lectures featuring leading speakers and engaging cultural topics. Now, Caloundra residents can enjoy a dedicated series of events closer to home.
ArtsNational Sunshine Coast Chair Dawne Clark said the organisation was delighted to introduce the monthly talks to Caloundra.
“Our events are open to everyone and provide an opportunity to discover fascinating subjects, learn something new and meet like-minded people,” she said. “It has been wonderful to see such enthusiasm from the Caloundra arts community.”
Local resident Jenny Byrne was among those inspired by the launch.
“I signed up immediately,” she said. “My curiosity was sparked by art historian Sally Butler, and I’m looking forward to her presentation on Rock Art and Modern Aboriginal Art.”
The series begins on June 29 at the Caloundra RSL Function Centre with Springtime in Tokyo – Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, presented by Australian filmmaker and lecturer Pieter de Vries.
Drawing on his acclaimed documentary 4 (Four Seasons, Four Continents, Four Musicians), de Vries explores the enduring appeal of Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, including a performance of “Spring” by renowned Japanese violinist Sayaka Shoji.
The four-talk series will pave the way for a full ArtsNational Caloundra program in 2027. Tickets are $30 and include the opportunity to meet the presenter over a glass of wine.
