Crikey! Magazine Photography Gallery at Australia Zoo

On Saturday 10 January, Robert Irwin unveiled the annual Crikey! Magazine Photography Gallery at Australia Zoo, celebrating the power of photography to inspire conservation and environmental awareness.

For nearly a decade, the Crikey! Magazine Photography Competition has showcased wildlife through the lens of passionate photographers. This year, a record-breaking number of submissions from around the world resulted in an impressive selection of winners.

“We are proud to lead a competition recognised internationally, helping people connect with the natural world,” said Robert. “Our hope is that photography will inspire different generations to protect nature when it needs us most.”

Australia Zoo received entries across categories including Crikey! Magazine Cover, The Natural World, and Crikey! Kids (10–17 years). The 2025 cover winner, by Santiago Arias, features Pora, an endangered jaguar in Argentina’s El Impenetrable National Park—a striking reminder of wildlife conservation.

Other winners include Ponlawat Thaipinnarong’s Sarus crane with chick (The Natural World); Salahuddin Ahmed’s damselfly through a leaf (Kids 15–17); Panitbhand Paribatra’s humpback whale encounter (Kids 11–14); and 10-year-old Jamie Smart’s close-up of a jumping spider (Kids 10 & under).

Judged by award-winning photographers and conservationists, the competition awarded curated prizes from camera kits to lodge stays.

Visitors can view the finalist images at Australia Zoo until the end of February and in the summer edition of Crikey! Magazine.
