Back in 2022, Alan Jones and his family moved from the southern states to the Sunshine Coast in search of sunshine and new opportunities. Originally, Alan envisioned launching a large-scale market running twice a month—but finding a suitable space proved challenging.
That changed one Sunday market day when Alan spotted a vacant tenancy on Bulcock Street. “I decided to pivot the model a bit,” he explains. Instead of a pop-up market, the space became a permanent collective of micro businesses—each operating under one roof and supporting one another.
Today, 14 small retailers share the space, renting stalls and contributing a percentage of their sales. “It’s a way for people to test their ideas without the full cost of setting up a shopfront,” Alan says. “It’s a stepping stone towards that next big leap.”
The shared-space model is catching on along Bulcock Street. Nearby, 4551 combines a hairdresser and café, and homewares store White Pepper features a curated mix of local sellers. With commercial rents continuing to rise, these collaborative approaches are a smart response to tough economic conditions.
Inside the Bazaar, you’ll find a vibrant mix: vintage clothing spanning everything from Y2K and ’90s streetwear to ’70s boho and western styles. There’s sports vintage, surf tees, comic books, posters, band shirts, retro toys, and more. Records—both vintage and repressed—line the shelves, while the on-site café ‘Sip Happens’ keeps browsers fuelled with a caffeine fix.
“It’s all about community and creativity,” Alan says. “And it’s only just getting started.”
Bulcock Street Bazaar is located at 61 Bulcock St, Caloundra
